Double Vision

Thursday of this week that just passed was a really good day for skies. The clouds were very broken up and the sun was setting. I decide to capture them from a reflective source. Standing facing the house, I was able to capture everything on my left from the reflective vehicle that was on my right including, the clouds, trees, another car, and the most far left side of the house. The reflective black car image, you can also see thru the passenger window, the white deck that is connected to left side of the house. There was also so some reflection of the red mulch onto the vehicle. The side mirror also reflected on itself capturing a little blue and white sky. I found it interesting to work with.

Zephyr is normally gentle, quite humorous, but also difficult to interpret. He always has the same facial expression know matter if he is content or he just beat up a dog. The above image was taken at night after he just swatted a Kerry blue Terrier in the face a few times. He walked away and then perched himself a top of a soft couch.

Follow the Leader

Simple picture illustrating a flock of geese. I am assuming that perhaps a majority of people would have liked to get closer to the birds for better detail, I could be wrong. I think this works OK. The picture showing the height that birds can reach, the organizing that is involved for flocking. The communication among the members to follow each other and to establish a rotation for a leader. Perhaps next time I'll have a better oportunity to get a closer image.

15 images back, I posted the image "Bird community" The above image was collected at the same time at the same location. This image is more about the autumn reflection instead of the distant bird community found in the pond. I would have posted it up earlier, but I forgot about having it. Maybe this is my way of keeping autumn among us, I am not ready to let go of the colors quite yet.

Storming Behind Colors

Trees no longer look like this now that winter is soon to hit us, on the eastern coast of the united states anyways. I took this image three weeks ago during the afternoon. I pulled up the window shade, looked out the window and saw these intense rain clouds lurking over the multi-colored autumn trees. Since it was going to rain, it was not the ideal day to capture outdoor pictures. I decide this was going to be Wednesday's opportunity.

Alternative Escape Route

Escape ladder to allow people to flee their home in case of a fire. There is then a 12 foot drop, so I hope people know how to land with out providing any serious injuries to themselves. I am sure occasionally tenants have climbed to the roof for the fun of it, especially during the nice weather.

Shopping for a birthday gift, I stopped at a local store that sells country-like items. I didn't really find anything that I thought was worth buying. What I did find was a country style lamp post with a mass of clouds drifting by. It was approaching near the end of the day, the sun was starting to set and there was a mix of dark and illuminated clouds. I might as well leave the store's parking lot with a picture than completely empty handed.

The other day, I posted a picture of a quiet nature farm scene. I cannot say the same about the second farm that I passed during my travels. There were plenty of cows grazing the land. When I first arrived the herd was far into the distance. Waiting long enough, the herd eventually grazed itself towards the roadside. This cow was very suspicious about what was happening on the other side of the fence.

Quiet farm on a very quiet street. No animals in sight, no farmers in sight. Seems kind of quiet and boring, I disagree. Nature has the tendency to make everything exciting. Great cloud formations passing over this little farm. In my opnion, this made a peaceful scene.

This is the follow up image of the birds that were fleeing the top of the church. This picture I caught right before the swarm of birds decide to rush off the roof top. This bird was exercising its wing on the gold cross at the highest peak of the church. Maybe it wasn't exercise but to harass the black bird perched above from this pigeon.

The first picture I posted on this blog was called "Unblessed Skies". It was the top portion of a church in my area named Precious Blood. Today I was driving by and saw a flock of birds that kept circling and resting on the upper most section. I decided to pull into the parking lot and wait until they become startled and fly away. Fortunately I did not have to wait very long and was able to capture these two images. Two very similar images but with different positions of the birds. I also decided to post the second image in full color.

Driving by a pond near a farm, I saw a little reflection in the water from a red fiberglass canoe. I was very excited, since I mentioned I really like working with moving water and various types of reflections. I turned around and drove onto the property to check out the area. Since I posted a reflection the other day, it might be a good time to post a consecutive pond reflection.

The sun was setting and I was looking for something to photograph at these apartment complex that were once mills before the conversion. Across from a pond I notice the spotlights turning on and were reflective from the surface of the pond. Nice combination for me since I do like photographing water and also enjoy capturing reflections. I find the reflective process very interesting. The ability for light to create an image from multiple mediums.

Well, last weekend, I was photographing birds eating seed from a feeder and suddenly a big hawk came by circling around and the little sparrows and finches scattered. I really don't blame them, who wants to be a meal to something else. While I was sitting against the house waiting patiently, I decided to capture images of some random nearby items. This hose connected to the water valve being one of them. It is also a reminder that the hose needs to come into the basement soon before it gets really cold and the hose cracks.

Kev, since you have expressed interest for the lock image, you might like this one as well.

Gleaming Leaf

The next day, after heavy rains, there was good amount of contemplation where to go to capture some images. After a good chunk of time, I got into the truck, the engine started, and the sliding cover to the sunroof was opened. I looked up and there it all was. The leaf and the water drops. After all the contemplation where to go, I ended up spending sometime in a vehicle shooting through a sunroof. The first image posted is darker than this image because it was in the shade. Thinking I was done, it was time to backup and actually go somewhere. However, the sunlight hit the leaf and presented a whole new situation, which provided this above image.

I am not sure which one is my favorite of the two. I am leaning towards this one but I just like them both. I am interested in other opinions. Thanks John for your comments, hope you find this one interesting as well.

This leaf is being attacked by numerous water droplets that are gliding in. The leaf has started to become submerged by one droplet already. This was taken the next day after a heavy rain storm. This image has been flipped vertically because I think it looks a lot better this way. The original image, the leaf is on the top with the water droplets coming upwards from the lower right. When I took this image, I was under the leaf and water. Either Sunday or Monday I will post another one from this set that I took.

Bird Community

Driving by a local park and saw an interesting bird community. There were two swans, a bunch of Canadian Geese, few ducks, and a single seagull. Rather than posting closer portraits of the birds, I decided to post a landscape instead. I really like the way this image turned out. The bird community coexisting in a pond, the various colors within the foliage, and the reflection of trees and clouds in the pond. I have a few more from this scene and perhaps post another image in the future.

This weekend that passed, I was on the hunt for a pumpkin. To celebrate the holiday, I normally like to carve a pumpkin the weekend before. The first place was a little overpriced but had some decent arrangements. He knew how to arrange them in a way to make them quite appealing to the costumers. Rows of pumpkins on hay bales with cornstalks behind them. Typical autumn/harvest decorative setup. As I said, overpriced, i purchased my soon to be carved pumpkin elsewhere.

This reminds me of something I saw in a few horror movies. The pumpkin on an old unkept porch. A simple setup that can allow the mind to wander and give a few extra heart beats per minute.

Billy Boyle Log Cabin

Billy "The Bear" Boyle was a foreman for J.E.Henry. Henry, a lumbar baron owned 100,00 acres of land in New Hampshire and ran a saw mill in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The log cabin that belonged to Billy located on the summit of Loon Mountain has been preserved for tourist.

East Branch & Lincoln Steam Engine

Located in North Woodstock, NH near Loon Mountain, you will find this historic train preserved for public display. It is located at the entranceway as you turn onto the bridge that leads into the Loon Mountain Resort. The East Branch & Lincoln Steam engine which was used for logging.

This is the bridge that I was on when I photographed the previous image. It was mid-afternoon and a limousine pulled over. The limo driver got out of his limo to phtoograph the beautiful foliage and the rocky terrain of a river. I guess he declared a photo break time. Nothing wrong with taking time out of a busy day to photograph the colorful scenery.

I decided to start bringing the New Hampshire trip to an end. Over the next 3-4 days I am going to post some random images that I took. I took this shot of the rocky landscape on the river from a bridge located at Loon Mountain, NH. The sun was setting behind the mountain. If you look closely, you will also find numerous people exploring the rocks. Some individuals to the far right as well as towards the center form the left.

We have reached the top of the mountain. This is the Cannon aerial Tramway that brings visitors to the top of the mountain. Not to much to say about this one. Other than it is packed in there, and was cold and windy when I got out of it.

We have returned to Cannon Mountain. This time we are going to take the Cannon Tram to the mountain's summit. Next few days I will post landscape images that were taken from the top of the mountain. This set of images were taken from within the Tram while it was jam packed with 79 other people.

Country Autumn

The Last image that will be posted for the Flume Gorge. Before the granite walls, the Flume area is widespread and visitors are free to explore. This image is prior to the granite walls. As soon as you pass the bridge that is shown, the platforms start. I took this image as I was leaving the Flume Gorge during closed hours. Tomorrow, we will return to the Cannon Mountain and begin our 4200 above sea level climb into the sky.

Two images ago, I posted the first waterfall. I mentioned in the caption that I was going to post the actual walkway that leads to the waterfall. Here it is, a long wooden platform that borders a 90 foot granite wall. A walkway like this, forces visitors to become single file and becomes quite congested. A combination of a wooden platform and a crowd is not ideal for this type of photography. I like capturing my moving water at 2 sec or more. Difficult to set up a tripod on a narrow platform especially when people are consistently shaking the platform and trying to pass you. My first time I had no chance in capturing decent images. How was I able to capture my waterfalls and today's images? The answer, I waited for closing and the last visitor to pass me. I had the state park to myself and was able to do what was need with no one around.

Still visiting the Flume Gorge in Fanconia Notch. This waterfall image is the same waterfall from the last image posted on Friday. The difference with this one, I am closer tot he fall and I have moved upwards to catch the beginning of the waterfall. I am quite pleased with the way this image turned out.

Last image caption, I mentioned we would be going back to the Cannon Mountain to climb it. I decide to put that on hold for a few days to take a small break from the mountainous theme. Instead, we are going to travel further down the Kancamagus Highway to visit "The Flume Gorge" located within Franconia notch State Park, Franconia, NH. This gorge is naturally made by a glacier. It has running water between 90 feet Granite walls. I really enjoy working with moving water and decide to post two images. I am hoping those that see these images really enjoy them. Tomorrow, I will be posting the same waterfall closer up and from a different angle. The following day I will post the actual walkway in order to get to this waterfall. That was not easy. I will explain when that time comes.

White Mountains

Over the weekend I focused on photographing the White Mountain range, forest and waterfalls within the White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire. To be more specific, Franconia Notch State Park, located in Franconia, NH. These mountains are part of the Appalachian Mountains. This area is an tourist attraction for the autumn foliage, hiking and rock climbing. This is the first image of many more to come. Over the next 2 weeks I will be posting an image per day from this park. I will start with images of mountains and forest from ground level and progressively post images that were taken from Mountain summits. Moving on to moving water and rock formations. Finally closing with unrelated images that were taken throughout the park.

This architectural piece is found in the center of a cemetery on top of a small hill. The name of the image is called Pothier because it is the name found at the top of this tomb, which is not shown in the image. It is one big massive tombstone where as most people have small ones. This individual had money and wanted to be remembered. A lot of people are drawn to this Roman/Greek type of structure. I have seen numerous occasions' people having their pictures taken on this stone. Wedding portraits, school dance portraits, etc. I'll probably be posting a few more from different angles.

Cinnamon Fern, Osmunda cinnamomea

I wanted to post this image of the maturing cinnamon fern before summer came to an end. It looks as if I did not meet the deadline. Anyways, here it is, the cinnamon fern. This fern contains both sterile and non sterile fronds (leaves). The center fronds being sterile are eventually covered in rusty, cinnamon color spore sacs as it finishes to uncoil, known as unfurling.

A lot of us have been harassed by seagulls especially near beaches and restaurants. In the middle of a parking lot, this seagull was very persistent about receiving some of my food that I was eating. It circled around and above my car a bunch of times. Running close up while making all kinds of begging bird sounds. It continued doing this until it realized it was not getting as much food as it was hoping for and finally flew away.

Trees are magnificient plants with so many functions for forest ecosystems. Providing home for animals, filtering the atmosphere, replenishing oxygen, food source for animals, to list a few. Such a shame that they keep getting destroyed for development.

Looking up into the trees, you begin to feel so tiny.

I was near a pond and saw this little guy fly by my head and landed in the grass. It then decide to play the camouflage game. It was spotted, photgraphed and then it went upon its business, or maybe it was eaten by the canadian geese from two pictures ago.

The first image is a side view and the second view is a dorsal view of an insect. The question is, "where is the actual insect"? This is the exoskeletal remains still attached to a pine tree. Take a look at the second image, the thorax has split open. I am not sure what type of insect, I am guessing it belongs to the beetle family but the abdomen seems more bee-like.

As the sun started to set, a group of canadian geese were feasting on whatever they could find in the grass. No one to bother them in this remote part of the cemetary with the exception of those lurking around with cameras.

I decided to leave the Newport tour that I was doing to move on to some new material. I have posted the Newport collection in my Newport, RI gallery at cmldigitaldetails.com if anyone is interested in viewing them.

Today was really nice outside. It is that transition bewteen summer and autumn that makes it very nice. Anyways, I was near this waterfall and thought it would be interesting. Most of the waterfalls I have done were strictly of the waterfall itself. This time, I included the waterfall with the landscape and the stone building that is adjacent to the fall.

Not only is there ocean scenery to admire, Newport is also well Known in Rhode Island for its Mansions. This trip I did not visit any mansions but I did get a shot of an outdoor light mount on a stone pillar near the entrance gates.

Further down the cliffwalk, the beach area is gone and now approaching deeper areas of the ocean. Walkers are able to look down onto the ocean waters as well as outwards. Looking outwards it seems there is not much out there except for water and a few seagulls relaxing on the peninsula-like rock formation.

Lets leave the bridge alone for now and visit the beach. This photo and the few to come will be taken from the Cliffwalk. It is a path that is open for the public for walking and running to view the ocean and skies. It begins at the beach and borders the ocean for approximately 2-2.5 miles.

This is the second photo that I post from my trip to Newport, the Newport Bridge. This is the bridge that I was on when I captured the previous photo. I was able to photograph the bridge from an ocean pier. I hope you all like it. As you can also see, it was a great day for some huge cloudscapes.

Summer Night

As I mentioned in the last pictures caption. Few weeks back I visited Newport, Rhode Island. The area it is well know for its beaches, boating, shops, and of course the Newport bridge. For the next handful of days, I'll be posting pictures that I have taken from the visit. As a note the pictures will not be in a chronological order. I have certain favorites that I get excited about and just can't wait. :)

Anyways, this picture is a cloudscape that I took on the way back home from the Newport Bridge. The sun was setting and the sun rays were radiating out from behind the clouds. No, I was not driving when I took it.

Mr. Chipmunk

I find Chipmunks to be very interesting to watch. Little scavengers, hard at work, collecting food and constantly being aware of their surroundings. However, as I heard recently, gardeners do not feel the same way. They feel chipmunks are a big nuisance to their garden. This is for the memory of all the chipmunks that entered a garden and was not able to escape from it.

I realized that I have not posted to many animals in my blog. I really enjoy animals and normally try to visit a couple of zoos few times during the summer. At Southwick Zoo, (Mendon, MA) there are a couple of Bengal cubs. I watched them and photographed them for about 30 minutes. I really like how this one turned out. Most likely I will be posting another 2 over the next couple of days. Not to often that I get to see Orange and White Bengal Cubs. I also recommend viewing this image with the dark background, I think it looks a lot better. My opinion anyways.

I thought this setup would make some kind of a decent picture. The isolated table and chairs near a stone wall. The marking in the wall, the design pattern on the table top, the pattern used for the chair design, as well as the pattern found on the ground with the reflection within the glass door.

Thumper, my sister's pomeranian. He seems cute in the photo, but that is a trick the pomeranians use to be bought. That is exactly what he did when my sister decided to purchase him. He used his cute power. He totally fits the profile of a Pomeranian. Barking, nasty, neurotic, and the constant need to socialize. He can be humorous at times, just don't make him angry!

Risky Fall

I was nervous when I did this one. There is no possible way to stand in front of the waterfall as it dumps into a river. The bridge I was standing on is from the side. I did not want a side view and I was stubborn to capture the image from the front. I removed the center bar from my tripod and locked it at a horizontal position. Extended the column over the bridge and wished really hard the camera or plate would not detach from the ball head. It did not, Thank you Manfrotto and Giotto!

Chocolog Trees

Chocolog Trees is not a specie of trees in case you are wondering. Chocolog road is the exit I take often when leaving the highway. These towering trees are at the end of the ramp. I never get bored encountering them each time.

Stone Office Building

This is a building located within my area. This use to be the city's old courthouse back in the 70's. Few years back someone bought the building and with extreme talent remodeled it. It is now available for office rent. I photographed it because I like the design of the building.

Follow the Lights

This is an area of an apartment in which residents can enter through a black gate, and gain access to their rented section. There is no need of having to walk throughout interior hallways or having to tolerate noise from tenants across the hallway. Anyways, I thought a row of outdoor illuminated lights against red walls including some nature across the way would make a good pic.

Staring Me Down

Sometime ago, I was photographing a swan for little over an hour. I ended up with a decent collection. The swan was rather active and very close to the edge of the reservoir. I ended up getting very close to it and at that point it became a little more cautious. It became a staring contest, bird against lens.
